Charter trips

Half, three-quarter and full-day trips for inshore, tarpon, offshore and fly fishing. Tackle and bait are included, and every trip is planned around the conditions and what you want to catch.

Inshore & flats charter

Inshore & flats

Snook, redfish and trout on the shallow grass flats and mangrove shorelines.

Most days start with Matt throwing the cast net for fresh pilchards before he meets you at the dock. From there it is shallow water under the bushes out to where the grass flats drop off, fishing light tackle or fly for snook, redfish, trout and whatever else is feeding.

It is not unusual to land 50 or more fish in a day. Snook run the flats almost year round, redfish school up by the hundreds, and trout are everywhere and easy for kids to catch.

Tarpon charter

Tarpon

The fish Matt builds his whole season around, March through October.

Peak migration runs May 1st through about the third week of July, when thousands of tarpon move onto the beaches and through the passes. Most of this fishing is sight casting to rolling fish, and it is the most demanding fishing Matt does.

An average day in peak season is six to twelve fish hooked, with the best days reaching thirty. The fish run 50 to 200 pounds and bigger. Matt fishes 50-pound tackle, and a single fight can go well over two hours.

Offshore charter

Offshore

A short run to the open Gulf for hard-pulling reef and pelagic fish.

The boat is docked five minutes from the open Gulf, so offshore days do not waste the morning running. Matt bottom fishes wrecks and hard bottom for grouper and snapper, and chums kingfish, mackerel and false albacore to the surface where the action gets fast.

If you want to fight something truly giant, goliath grouper average 150 to 450 pounds and have gone over 700. It takes real muscle, but if you can hold the rod, Matt can hook you up.

Fly fishing charter

Fly fishing

Sight fishing the flats and the beaches with a fly rod, the way Matt has fished since he was twelve.

Snook are the most consistent fly target on the flats. A good day is a dozen or more, and the best days have put clients into over fifty snook, all on flies in shallow water. Matt ties many of his own patterns and hands them to clients.

During the May-through-July tarpon migration, fly anglers cast to schools that can run into the thousands. Bring an 11 or 12 weight for the tarpon; 8 and 9 weights cover the flats.
